About Us

We're Katelyn and Michael Black and, like any story, there's always a beginning...

We've been nerding out together since 2013 and have made many relationship milestones since then, including starting our business, The Witch and Smith. With a combination of our passions for heart-centered spaces and tabletop/card games, our goal is to encourage creativity and a safe place for people to gather and have fun.

Though we're starting off online selling our wares and services, offering an online experience to bring into your home (or office, dungeon, what-have-you), our hope is to one day open our own storefront and give our budget-friendly young locals somewhere to hang out.

None of this would be possible if not for teamwork. We each bring our own unique twist to the business and give it a broader scope. These twists might seem overlapped (there's a little nerd in all of us) but we could also be exclusive in our roles! Which is totally fine! You can learn more about us and our individual roles below.

Katelyn Black, the Witch

When she isn't running around the house being domestic, Katelyn enjoys chatting with friends and family, trying to make her D&D characters be less edgy (and failing), and a warm beverage to soothe her soul. Besides playing with MtG cards since 2012, she has been reading tarot and oracle for 13 years, offering guidance for those who seek it.

Since a young age, she's had the ability to hear and speak with the departed. Though not too departed. The ancestors have many hands in our daily lives, urging the living, teaching through a new perspective from a place of total love, compassion, and integrity. And, if nothing else, saying: "you are not alone."

Katelyn has always been the "mother hen" and her natural maternal way of being also extends to her work. Above all, she creates a healing, open space for those who wish to feel connected and heard.

Michael Black, the Smith

Craftsman | Gamer | Forever DM | Schemer

After a grueling day of working for the man, Michael comes home to kisses, a hot shower, and more work. The latter is a labor of love. Since 2008 Michael has been crunching numbers and designing his own tabletop RPG with his own custom dice system. On his "off days" he is plotting away making Dungeons and Dragons 5e gaming modules and even his own classes to spice up the game with some more diversity.

When he isn't spending time with his family and playing video games, Michael will get the itch to work on some chain mail. He has an appreciation for the old crafts: blacksmithing, leatherworking, chain mail, among others. He even has the life goal of getting a house and building his own forge and mead hall in the backyard! Life is too short and this man has plans.

If Michael had words assigned to him, compassionate, playful, and dedicated would be just the start. His ambition is infectious and he loves nothing more than to help new people get comfortable in the hobbies he adores so much. So tell him your stories, your experiences, and he'll be all ears.
